"Kiiltomatolyhty – Valonkajo (CD, Reverb Worship)
Joonatan Aaltonen is the brain behind the Finnish project Kiiltomatolyhty, although he collaborated with Iina-Maria Talvinen on his previous album Kultasarvi (2020). He is now back with the album Valonkajo, which means "ray of light". Now there is also something with lantern hidden in the name of his project, so that fits nicely. The album is divided into six pieces, but is served as one long piece of almost 41 minutes. The album opens with Finnish folk, but then quickly goes in a more electronic direction. This ranges from ambient to more psychedelic music, but also that typical electronic music of the so-called Berlin school. Various field recordings are then mixed in with some regularity. The result is an organic and compelling whole, reminiscent of an ever-changing hybrid of Paavoharju, Coil, Lau Nau, Popol Vuh and Tangerine Dream. The CD ends with a beautiful folk piece. A beautiful contemplative album!."
